Redeemer

The garden complex is annexed to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer which was designed for the Serenissima by the renowned architect Andrea Palladio and entrusted to the Capuchins by Pope Gregory XIII as a symbol of rebirth after the plague of 1575-1577. Before restoration, the garden was visibly marked by the passage of time and by the acqua granda of November 2019, an exceptional high tide that devastated the city. In order to safeguard a testimony of such important religious, cultural and landscape value, in 2021 the Monumental Complex was entrusted to Venice Gardens Foundation by the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars Minor, with the authorisation of the Holy See, and by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the City of Venice and its Lagoon, to allow it to be restored. Thanks to the commitment of Venice Gardens Foundation, the Complex opened to the public for the first time on 26 October 2024 and will be cared for and conserved by the Foundation in the years to come.

All those entering the Monumental Complex must comply with the following regulations, the Urban Security Regulations of the City of Venice and the regulations of the Municipal Police regarding protection of the city’s green spaces. Given its important historical and environmental value, the Complex is protected by the Cultural Heritage Code. Visitors are reminded that they must respect the site and maintain suitable decorum.

The Complex is under video surveillance.

You are reminded:
to behave in keeping with the monastic spirit of the site, to keep your animal on a lead, to smoke only in the designated area outside the café, not to disturb or feed animals.
